Then the other day was my birthday! Dan took me out to dinner and we got to use a gift card some friends gave us awhile back. Our friends watched Jackson, so it was just the two of us. It was a nice dinner.
Last night, I was driving home from work at 3am and thinking about where we are at right now. Back in April and May, even June and July (not mentioning before transplant), I wasn’t so sure that Dan would ever feel as great as he does now. For some reason he had a rough start with the new lungs and now it just makes me feel so happy that he feels so much better. It’s just such a relief.
Dan has been working on his pergola. It’s on the south side of our house to help keep it cooler over there. Dan started it last summer, but was never able to finish because he kept getting sicker and sicker. So the pergola has been on Dan’s list of things to do for awhile now.
Check out the massive amount of bills, statements and EOB’s (explanation of benefits).
I have one binder for bills and statements with dividers to keep them organized by who they are from. Then one binder for his primary insurance and another for his secondary insurance. The primary insurance sends EOB’s explaining if they are paying and the amount on a bill. That binder is getting a little full, I’m going to need a new binder for it soon.
We went on a mini vacation over Labor Day weekend! It was the most fun I’ve had had in a long time. It was so nice to spend time together, just the three of us. Not having any worries about doctors or hospitals. And having everyone, especially Dan, feel so good and healthy. I loved every minute of it.
Every year, Dan’s family does a big annual family reunion over Labor Day weekend from Friday to Monday. I had Wednesday through Saturday off, so Dan planned a mini-vacation for us before the reunion. Last year, we went up and picked blueberries and cherries in Hood River on our way up to the reunion. We had a lot of fun last year and the blueberries were the best, so I’ve been looking forward to doing this again. A few times while at the hospital, when Dan was sick, I would think about picking blueberries and would pray that we would get to do it again. Last year Dan wasn’t feeling that great, he pushed through a lot, so it was so good to have him feeling better to pick blueberries this time.
Then Dan planned a trip to a water park up in Washington. It’s been a long year driving by water parks and wanting to be able to go, but never having Dan feeling good enough. So this was pretty neat to be able to finally go. Jackson had a lot of fun and it was so great to share it with Dan. Here is a picture of the two of them being silly.
Then after the water park, we went to the family reunion. Jackson got to play with lots of his cousins. We had a lot of fun. It was good to see all of Dan’s family. I had to leave on Saturday to go back to work. That was really difficult for me. I had a tough time leaving them. I had so much fun the last four days, I didn’t want to leave.
It’s been so long since I last posted, I now feel behind and don’t know where to start. It’s been hard to keep up posts. I work a long four days in a row and barely am home, then I have four days off and want to be playing, but also have to keep up on the not so fun things like chores and bills. So there hasn’t been much time for blogging lately.
If you’ve been checking the twitter updates, Dan had a doctor appointment Tuesday. The xray showed some areas that still hadn’t healed from the last hospital visit, so the doctor wanted a bronchoscopy done Wednesday. The bronch went well and Dan came home the next day (just in time for Jackson’s first day at school!). Dan just got a call from the doctor’s office that the bronch results were good, no infection. So they will wait and see what the xray looks like next clinic visit. Dan is still feeling so good. It still amazes me. It’s just so wonderful that I can’t even describe it. It’s just so great that he has these new lungs and they are working for him!
Dan took Jackson and I on a hike this morning. We drove 45 mins to Three Creeks Lake and hiked a mile to Little Three Creeks Lake and caught a bunch of frogs! Jackson had a lot of fun playing in the dirt.
